The Cruise

I flew into Vancouver (the condominium capitol of the world) to begin the cruise.

At the airport, much to my horror, there was a VERY high and narrow cross walk with plexiglass walls that I had to walk over to get to the customs area for cruise ship passengers. I panicked. I tried to find another way to the customs area. There wasn't one. I let everyone else go before me. I was almost in tears. After 15 minutes, I finally got the nerve and gingerly walked to the banister (gripping it till my knuckles turned white) and looking straight down at the floor of the cross walk moved one foot in front of the other till I got to the other side.

There were a few more high cross walks in the airport but those were wider so I was able to walk in the center of them without much trepidation.

A bus took us from the airport to the cruise ship via streets in Vancouver. I did not get to see GM Place (Canucks play there).

Here is the Zaandam, the ship I sailed on. It is named for the Zaanstad district in Amsterdam. It was operated by Captain Jeroen Baijens from the Netherlands. My cabin was third from the end.

There was plenty to do on the ship. I was spoiled. However, it was rainy, foggy, and chilly the days I was on the ship.

* Shows every night
* Tour of the galley
* Formal dinner night
* Stop in Juneau and a whale watching excursion

Below and the next few pages will show photos and my personal edits and feedback on the photos and the cruise....

Here's the view I had from my veranda deck. Basically, nothing. Rain, fog, and a mere shadow of the landscape.

This one was taken at about 11 pm. It stayed light out real late. I'm not quite sure if the daylight ever was replaced by darkness. At first, I liked it.

Then, it caused me effort in trying to sleep. I kept waking up thinking it was morning. They say the sun sets in summer here, but the daylight never really went away.
