Whitehorse

In Fraser, BC, we departed the train and met up with Suzie and our bus tour guide, John. We went through customs pretty effortlessly and began the trip to Whitehorse.

The tour took us on the Klondike Highway, with a stop in Carcross for ice cream, then travelled past Emerald Lake and ended the evening in Whitehorse, YT.

This is Emerald Lake. My photo does not do it justice. It was really quite green, in a very beautiful way.

We got to Whitehorse in the early evening. I had dinner at the hotel. I had booked a ticket for the Frantic Follies. The Frantic Follies is a turn of the century vaudeville revue which depicts the entertainment seen by the pioneers of the Great Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. I was entertained by the show.

On a side note, the lady sitting next to me had the newest and final Harry Potter book. She told me she had gotten it earlier at a book store just a block away that stayed open until 11 pm. After the Frantic Follies show ended, I walked over to the book store and got a copy. I didn't get a whole lot of sleep that night because I was reading the book (and there wasn't any darkness).

The next day took us to Uncommon Journey's (a premier dog sledding homestead managed and operated by Rod Taylor and his wife), and travel on the Alaska Highway passing Kluane Lake and ending in Beaver Creek, YT.

Here is the lodging for the huskies of Uncommon Journey's. Many of these fellows have run the Iditorad.

The puppy on the right was just so excited to have visitors.

These dogs liked to stay on top of their dog houses. They are very social and like to be pet and talked to.

And, they were so excited to get out and run. In this photo, they hooked them up to an ATV. Just look at their happy faces and howling to see the enjoyment they get out of running.
