We took a riverboat tour along the Chena River on the Discovery III.

Here's the paddleboat docked at the Chena Indian Village. It was another gorgeous day.

How's this for a place to live? A seaplane, a boat, a beautiful house with a gorgeous patio, trees all around and on a river.

On to Chena Indian Village. This village is a display of pioneer life lived on the Artic Circle. Tour guides explained how huts were built and how animals were used for food and protection. We heard from Dixie Alexander, famed artist who makes handmade parkas, and saw huskies with Iditarod champion Susan Butcher.

Here's a log cabin.

Grass roofs. I believe this was done to help prevent flooding in the home. After reading up on it, this is still done all over the world for environmental purposes. I had never seen it before.

This is the beautiful, handmade parka by Dixie Alexandra. The hood is called the sunshine hood. Some of her artwork like this are displayed in the Smithsonian Institute.

There was a vegetable garden with the biggest veggies I had ever seen. Take a look at this cabbage! Lots of coleslaw can be made out of this one.

If you hadn't done so already, please do take a look at the following link: Riverboat Discovery. It explains a whole lot more about the Discovery Tour. The next day took us to Denali, AK. Click the next button below to see photos and comments.
